The Silly Melody

sand-beach-by-arman-mando

I wish I was on the soft sand on the beach.
I wish I had a friend.
I wish I had a crazy pussycat that drove me around the room.
I wish I had a hippopotamus for Christmas. Only a hippopotamus will do.
I wish I was trapped on the sunshiny beach.
I wish I had a snake that scared the whole class.
I wish I was a beehive with bees.
I wish I was a river zigzagging with love.
I wish I was a sunflower shaking my seeds.
I wish I could ride on a dandy butterfly.
I wish I could swing on a flower vine.
I wish I could go into a deep, dark forest.
I wish a volcano exploded.
I wish things were different for me.
I love life.
I wish I were pretty.

Victoria, I see from the author information for your lovely poem that you are dealing with very serious challenges. My hope for you is that you will get better soon and go on to explore many of these places and ideas. While you wait for that day, read lots of books and keep imagining what the world is like. When I was your age, I lived on a tropical island that had lots of sandy beaches and bright-flowered mimosa trees. I used to imagine what it would be like to live where it snowed. Now that I am a lot older, I live where there are huge dark evergreen trees (like Christmas trees, only much bigger) and the beaches have rocks on them. Today it is snowing here, and the world feels much quieter because all the birds and little animals are tucked away safe and warm in their nests. P.S. My children are teenagers now, but when they were your age they also liked to write poetry!
