WITS Writers Will Read at Brazos 1/23/09

gulf-coast-2009Brazos Bookstore and Gulf Coast Magazine presents three readers from the University of Houston’s nationally acclaimed graduate program in creative writing. The reading will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 23. All readings are free and open to the public.

Current WITS writer Matt Boyleston is an Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing at Houston Baptist University. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Houston and holds an MFA from the University of South Carolina. His poems and essays have appeared widely in such journals as: Puerto del Sol, The Spoon River Poetry Review, and Harpur Palate among others.

Current WITS Writer Brandon Lamson is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in poetry at the University of Houston. Originally from Maryland, he lived in New York City for eight years and taught creative writing to inmates on Rikers Island. His poems have appeared in various journals, including Akkadian, Hunger, and Brilliant Corners.

Lisa Lee is currently completing her MFA in nonfiction at the University of Houston. She grew up in Napa and moved to San Francisco. Lisa received her B.A. at U.C. Berkeley where she studied English and Music. She completed her J.D. at Santa Clara University on a Law Faculty Scholarship, and studied Social Justice and Public Interest Law.
